RWMC approves proposal to regularise over 1,000 sanitation workers
RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) has approved a proposal to regularise the services of more than 1,000 sanitation workers.
The Human Resources Committee of RWMC’s Board of Directors approved the proposal and forwarded it to the board for final approval.
The decision came after successful negotiations between HR Committee Chairman Javed Anwar Mughal and the Municipal Labour Union, following which the union withdrew its strike call.
The meeting was chaired by Javed Anwar Mughal and attended by former MNA Malik Shakeel Awan, RWMC Secretary Muhammad Farooq, Chief Financial Officer Bilal Khawar, Municipal Labour Union Chairman Changez Bhatti, and other members.
After detailed discussions, the committee unanimously approved the proposals and sent them to the board for ratification. Officials said the move, including the long-standing demand for the regularisation of workers, was approved in line with the chief minister’s directions to ensure workers’ welfare.
Officials also confirmed that the honorarium already paid to sanitation workers had been formally approved. They said the board would continue working with RWMC and the government to safeguard workers’ rights and prevent exploitation. However, they stressed that negligence in sanitation duties would not be tolerated.
Former MNA Malik Shakeel Awan said Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was continuing the pro-worker vision of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, adding that the government was taking steps to promote public welfare.
Municipal Labour Union Chairman Changez Bhatti expressed hope that sanitation workers would receive positive news before Eid.
