35-Year-Old Water Pumping Station Restored to Improve Water Supply for Karachi Communities
Karachi: Mayor Karachi and Chairman Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) Barrister Murtaza Wahab has inaugurated the restored Mir Muhammad Baloch Water Pumping Station after 35 years, marking a significant step towards strengthening Karachi’s water infrastructure. The rehabilitation of the pumping station is expected to improve water supply services for more than 300,000 residents of Saddar Town, Lyari Town, and the Old City areas while addressing long-standing water shortages. Suthra Punjab Workers Protest in Chishtian Over Unpaid Salaries and Alleged Wage Deductions
Chishtian: Workers employed under the Suthra Punjab Programme staged a protest at Khatm-e-Nabuwwat Chowk in Chishtian against delayed salary payments and alleged wage deductions, demanding immediate intervention from the Punjab Government. The protesters claimed they had not received their salaries on time for the past two months and alleged that up to Rs. 15,000 was being deducted from their monthly wages. They also said they were not paid a bonus on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha, leaving many workers facing severe financial hardship. Punjab Approves Roadmap to Combat Pollution Through Stronger Waste Management and Enforcement
Lahore: The Punjab Pollution Enforcement Committee has approved a comprehensive roadmap to tackle environmental pollution across the province through sustainable waste management practices, stronger enforcement, and improved interdepartmental coordination. The meeting, chaired by Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, reviewed major pollution sources, corrective measures, regulatory reforms, and mechanisms for coordinated action among relevant departments. Officials presented plans for assessing pollution-causing sectors, preparing emission load inventories, and implementing a comprehensive waste management framework. LAHORE – Under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, exemplary cleanliness arrangements were made across the province during the blessed days of Eid-ul-Adha, officials confirmed. From early morning, road washing and the immediate disposal of animal waste continued with full diligence. Under the “Suthra Punjab” initiative, a record cleanliness operation was completed on Eid, in which over 184,000 sanitary workers performed 24-hour duties despite severe heat with temperatures reaching 45 to 50 degrees Celsius.
