CHISHTIAN – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has taken strict notice of the tragic incident in Chishtian where two sanitary workers lost their lives due to toxic gas inhalation during a drainage line cleaning operation, ordering a transparent and comprehensive investigation.

Meanwhile, Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs Ramesh Singh Arora made an emergency visit to Chishtian to express condolences and solidarity with the affected families. The provincial minister visited the homes of the deceased sanitary workers, met with their families, shared their grief, and prayed for the departed souls.

On this occasion, he assured the affected families that the Punjab government would not leave them alone in this difficult time and would provide every possible financial and administrative support.

Speaking to the media, Ramesh Singh Arora said that on the directives of the Punjab Chief Minister, the incident is being investigated from every angle. If negligence or dereliction of duty on the part of any government official, relevant department, or contractor is proven, strict legal action will be taken without discrimination.

He said it is also being examined whether the Municipal Committee Chishtian ensured compliance with safety protocols, SOPs, and the use of necessary safety equipment during the drainage line cleaning. Initial reports have raised concerns that the staff was not provided with adequate safety equipment, which led to this tragic incident.

The provincial minister emphasized that protecting human lives is the top priority of the Punjab government, and to prevent such accidents in the future, the use of modern machinery, safety kits, gas detectors, and other safety measures must be made mandatory during drainage line cleaning.

He assured the affected families that the government would continuously monitor the case, ensure justice, and bring those responsible to the court of law.
