105 Water Tanks with 18 Million-Gallon Capacity Being Built in 51 Punjab Cities
LAHORE, September 8: Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq said that 105 water tanks with a combined capacity of 18 million gallons are being constructed in 51 cities under the Punjab Development Programme (PDP). Of these, 92 underground tanks have so far been completed.
The minister made these remarks during a review meeting at the Civil Secretariat to assess progress on the Punjab Development Programme. Special Secretary Shahid Zaman Lak and Additional Secretary Mehreen Faheem Abbasi attended the meeting, while the relevant Municipal Officers Infrastructure (MOIs) and Assistant Project Directors (APDs) participated through video link.
Zeeshan Rafiq said 124 drains spanning 77 kilometres were also being constructed under the PDP. So far, 92 drains have been completed, while work on another six drains is progressing rapidly.
He said a total of 81 disposal stations were planned for construction and rehabilitation under the programme. Work has already started on 23 disposal stations in different cities, while work on the remaining 58 stations would begin in phases soon.
The provincial minister said shifting all disposal stations to solar energy would save tens of millions of rupees in electricity bills every month. He added that disposal stations would also play an important role in preventing urban flooding.
Zeeshan Rafiq appreciated the relevant teams for completing the water tank and drainage projects on time and issued instructions for effective monitoring of construction work. He also directed the MOIs and APDs to ensure effective supervision of the ongoing development projects.
