Punjab to Launch Pilot Pipe Water Supply Project in Six Districts

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a pilot project to provide clean drinking water through pipeline networks in six districts across the province.

Chairing a special meeting on ongoing drinking water initiatives, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring access to safe drinking water for every household. The meeting reviewed existing supply methods, including filtration plants, bottled water and water bowsers.

The pilot project will be launched in Rajanpur, Lahore, Faisalabad, Chakwal, Rawalpindi, and Murree/Kotli Sattian, representing southern, central and northern Punjab.

Maryam Nawaz directed deputy commissioners, Wasa officials and public health engineering experts to finalize implementation plans, with priority given to low-income households and areas lacking reliable sources of clean drinking water.

She also instructed authorities to continue supplying water through tankers and bowsers in regions facing water shortages or contamination. The meeting reviewed various implementation models, including public-private partnerships, and directed that bottled water plants operate at full capacity. The Chief Minister also appreciated the successful delivery of bottled drinking water to remote areas of the Sulaiman Range.
