Broken 36-Inch Sewage Line in New Karachi Causes 15 Days of Misery for Residents

KARACHI – A 36-inch diameter main sewage line in Sector 11-F, New Karachi Town, has been broken for the past 15 days, causing wastewater to enter streets, roads, and several homes in the area. The serious situation has severely impacted the daily lives of citizens.

Chairman of New Karachi Town, Muhammad Yousuf, has strongly protested against the alleged negligence and apathy of the Water and Sewerage Board Corporation, stating that despite multiple complaints, concerned officers are not taking serious steps to resolve the issue.

According to local residents, the Water and Sewerage Board Corporation has been resorting to delays and excuses for the past two weeks, while residents of the affected area continue to suffer hardships.

Muhammad Yousuf said that he and his team have been continuously visiting the affected area and are aware of the citizens’ problems. However, the administrative authority of the Water and Sewerage Corporation does not lie with the Town, which prevents him from forcing concerned officers to take practical action.

He stated that the relevant officers of the institution, including XEN Majid Bukhari and Engineer Shah Rukh Khan, have failed to resolve the issue despite repeated complaints. According to him, even after 15 days, no formal repair work has been initiated.

The Chairman of New Karachi Town demanded that XEN Majid Bukhari and Engineer Shah Rukh Khan be suspended immediately and replaced with officers who can work practically. He also demanded that the administrative powers of the Water and Sewerage Corporation be transferred to the Town to enable swift decision-making and effective action at the local level.
