KWSC Establishes Special Police Station to Crack Down on Water Theft and Illegal Hydrants

Karachi: In a landmark move to combat water theft and protect public water resources, Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has inaugurated a dedicated police station for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) to tackle water theft, illegal connections, and the city’s hydrant mafia.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by KWSC Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Ali SiddiquiChief Operating Officer Engineer Asadullah KhanChief Financial Officer Ammar Ali Khan, and other senior officials.

Speaking at the event, Mayor Murtaza Wahab announced that the Water Corporation has adopted a zero-tolerance policyagainst water theft, unauthorized water connections, and illegal hydrant operations. He said that, for the first time in Karachi’s history, a specialized police station has been established to register cases, conduct investigations, and pursue legal action against offenders.

According to the Mayor, the police station has been established under the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation Act and has full legal authority to investigate and prosecute offences related to water theft. All future cases involving illegal water extraction and unauthorized use of public water supplies will be registered and handled through this specialized facility.

He emphasized that strict action will be taken against individuals and groups involved in water theft, illegal hydrants, and the unauthorized use of government water resources, adding that no one would be given preferential treatment.

Mayor Murtaza Wahab described the initiative as a major step towards protecting citizens’ rights, safeguarding Karachi’s water resources, and ensuring the fair and transparent distribution of water across the city.
